Ed O'Brien Biography

Ed O'Brien is a researcher who focuses on how individuals perceive time and change, especially in terms of hedonic experiences. Personality and Social Psychology Review, Psychological Science, and the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology have all published his work. His study has been covered by NPR, The Atlantic, TIME, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Big Think, among others. O'Brien obtained a Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 2014 and a Master's degree in social psychology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 2011, where he worked with Phoebe Ellsworth and Norbert Schwarz. A National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, the Philip Brickman Memorial Prize for the outstanding predoctoral research program, and the Pat Gurin Distinguished Lecture Award were among his honors at UM. O'Brien grew up on the east coast, attending the famous Saint Joseph's Preparatory high school in Philadelphia (2005) and then Saint Joseph's University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science summa cum laude in psychology (2009). He was the only student in his graduating class to achieve the title of "University Scholar" based on grades, coursework, research, and extracurricular activities.
