Ed Buckner graduated from Rice University with a B.A. in 1967 and went on to Georgia State University for his M. Ed. and Ph.D. Massimo Pigliucci, Keith Parsons, Carol Faulkenberry, and Edwin Kagin have all published works with Freethought Press. He co-edited freethinker and retired FBI agent Oliver G. Halle's Taking the Harder Right with his wife Diane.
He co-edited Quotations That Support the Separation of Church and State with his son, Michael Edward Buckner (1995). In the United States, India, the United Kingdom, and abroad, he has published chapters in a number of books, as well as numerous reviews, articles, blog posts, and letters to the editor.
