Ed Buckner Biography

Ed Buckner graduated from Rice University with a B.A. in 1967 and went on to Georgia State University for his M. Ed. and Ph.D. Massimo Pigliucci, Keith Parsons, Carol Faulkenberry, and Edwin Kagin have all published works with Freethought Press. He co-edited freethinker and retired FBI agent Oliver G. Halle's Taking the Harder Right with his wife Diane. He co-edited Quotations That Support the Separation of Church and State with his son, Michael Edward Buckner (1995). In the United States, India, the United Kingdom, and abroad, he has published chapters in a number of books, as well as numerous reviews, articles, blog posts, and letters to the editor. Buckner, who is now retired, was the executive director of the Council for Secular Humanism from 2001 to 2003 and the president of the American Atheists (2008-2010). Buckner has discussed and lectured on freethought and secular humanism all throughout the United States and in the United Kingdom, often about the Treaty of Tripoli and secularism. In December 2012, Buckner and his son Michael released In Freedom We Trust: An Atheist Guide to Religious Liberty, which was published by Prometheus Books.
