E. Lockhart is the pen name of Emily Jenkins, an American author best known for her young adult (YA) novels, particularly “We Were Liars” (2014), a New York Times bestseller and psychological thriller about a wealthy family and a shocking summer on their private island. The book sold over 3 million copies, was translated into 30 languages, and inspired a prequel, “Family of Liars” (2022). Other notable YA works include “The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks” (2008), a National Book Award finalist and Printz Honor book, and the Ruby Oliver series. Writing as E. Lockhart, she focuses on YA fiction, while under the name Emily Jenkins, she authors children's books, including “A Fine Dessert” (2015) and “Toys Go Out” (2006). She holds a doctorate from Columbia University, teaches creative writing, and lives in Brooklyn with her family.
