HYLNDS is a clothing line that aims to evoke the mythic lands of Northern Europe. HYLNDS fragrances are inspired by stories from antiquity, the Iron Age, and the Viking Age, and are created using historical records, the aromatic study of genuine locales, and the creative creativity of the Celtic, Norse, Manx, and Anglo peoples. The formulae are created by D.S. He grew up surrounded by the beautiful fragrances of the ocean and woodland in a small New England village. He's had a lifetime interest in smell since winning his first bottle of perfume in a raffle at an island summer camp. In 2002, he relocated to New York City with an old band. Durga is the one who makes the designs. She was born in the New York suburbs but spent her youth around the globe. She studied architecture and design in Los Angeles and Holland, respectively. She went back to New York to design buildings when she met D.S. outside one of them. They began tincturing flowers, herbs, and spices together to produce aftershaves for pals shortly after. They began mixing oils, resins, and plant extracts after realizing that none of their pals shaved (this was in 2007). Friends adored the tiny batch fragrances and colognes that resulted. D.S. could create melodies in scent, and Durga could condense her designs into the architecture of scents (and the packaging they reside in).
