Drew Benson started as a markets correspondent for Bloomberg News in Buenos Aires in July 2008, covering Argentine debt and foreign currency. In May, he moved to New York to handle Latin American bond sales. Drew joined Bloomberg in 2004 after working for Dow Jones Newswires in Buenos Aires, where he covered energy, economics, markets, and politics.
He previously spent five years in Lima, Peru, working for The Associated Press. Drew graduated from the University of Maryland with a master's degree in journalism and a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Delaware. Drew was an active-duty officer in the United States Army before becoming a writer, reaching the rank of Captain.
