Dr. Shanafelt's is a nationally recognized expert in physician wellness and leader in the medical center’s pioneering program focusing on the treatment of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). CLL is the most common leukemia in adults and although treatable is currently an incurable illness.
He is a member of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Leukemia Steering Committee and is currently the principal investigator (PI) on two R01 grants from the NCI. He has been the PI on numerous clinical trials testing new treatments for patients with CLL.
