Dr. Gonzo is a stand-up comedian who performs a mix of stand-up comedy, music, and parodies. Dr. Gonzo is the stage name of John Means, a stand-up comedian from the 1980s. Means gained the moniker while attending Drake University and auditioned for The Big Laugh Off in 1981 as Dr. Gonzo.
I think I was frightened of failing under my own name, as Means put it. Dr. Gonzo succeeded, and in the 1980s, he was one of San Francisco's most popular comedians.
