Dennis Bray is a professor emeritus at the University of Cambridge's Department of Physiology, Development, and Neuroscience. Before returning to the UK, he received training as a biochemist at MIT and as a neurobiologist at Harvard Medical School before pursuing a long scientific career in the disciplines of nerve development and cell motility.
During a sabbatical visit at Caltech in 1991, he pioneered a paradigm shift in computational biology, focusing on the molecular mechanism of bacterial chemotaxis. He became a powerful supporter of the computational approach to living cells as a result of his effective modeling of this signaling system.
