Dr. Charles C. Haynes is the director of the Newseum's Religious Freedom Education Project. He has written and spoken widely on religious liberty and religion in public life in the United States. Haynes is most recognized for his work in public schools on First Amendment concerns.
He has been the main organizer and drafter of consensus standards on religious liberty in schools for the past two decades, which have been approved by a wide spectrum of religious and educational organizations. Haynes has six publications to his credit, including First Freedoms: A Documentary History of America's First Amendment Rights (2006) and Religion in American Public Life.
