Dr. Califano's research interests are generally characterized in the subject of Systems Biology, with a focus on human cancers. His team, in particular, was a pioneer in combining multiple reverse engineering methods to create genome-wide, context-specific maps of molecular interactions in human cells. These maps have shown a lot of promise in terms of rational phenotyping, both physiological and pathological.
His team has compiled a genome-wide map of transcriptional and post-transcriptional interaction in many human cell settings, including B cells, Breast Carcinoma, and normal and tumor-related Stem Cells, during the last few years. These maps are widely utilized for the unbiased dissection of dysregulated pathways in cancers of the human body.
