Doris Christopher established Pampered Chef in the basement of her suburban Chicago home in 1980, inspired by her desire to preserve the custom of family mealtimes and propelled by the spirit of entrepreneurship. Her background as a home economics instructor (and stay-at-home mother) helped her to see the need for time-saving kitchen products and procedures.
She devised a simple strategy to provide consumers with professional-quality kitchen gear via in-home cooking demos provided by a sales team of "Pampered Chef Consultants." After 35 years, the company has grown into a multibillion-dollar corporation with tens of thousands of consultants throughout the world. In 1986, Pampered Chef joined the Direct Selling Association (DSA).
