Swayze was born in Houston, Texas, to choreographer, dance instructor, and dancer Patsy Yvonne Helen (née Karnes) and engineering drafter Jesse Wayne Swayze. He is the older brother of Sean Kyle and adopted sister Bora Song, and the younger brother of late actor Patrick Swayze and sister Vicky Lynn (nicknamed Bambi).
He is a sixth cousin once removed of pundit John Cameron Swayze, as well as a related of Henry Karnes, a famous Texas Revolutionary Warfighter.
