Olick worked as a local news reporter for WABI-TV in Bangor, Maine, WZZM-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and KIRO-TV in Seattle. She began her career at CBS in 1994 as a journalist for the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather and The Early Show from New York. She's also written for 48 Hours and Sunday Morning.
