Dennis Byrd, a former defensive end and defensive tackle with the New York Jets of the National Football League, was born on October 5, 1966, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He went to the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma for college. Beginning in 1989, he played professionally with the Jets for four seasons.
He has 20 sacks and 110 tackles in his first two seasons. On November 29, 1992, Byrd suffered a neck injury while playing in an NFL game against the Kansas City Chiefs. He attempted to sack Chiefs quarterback Dave Krieg on the play, but Krieg stepped up to escape the tackle, and Byrd collided with fellow Jets teammate Scott Mersereau.
