David Yurman grew up on Long Island, New York, and began his career as a designer and entrepreneur by selling little sculptures in the cafeteria of his high school. Later, when visiting his sister in Provincetown, MA, at the age of 16, he met Cuban welder and sculptor Ernesto Gonzales.
David discovered an outlet and focus for his creativity in sculpture, which he would further develop as an apprentice under the mentorship of famous sculptors Jacques Lipshitz and Theodore Rozack over the next two decades (he collaborated with Picasso and Modigliani).
