David Treuer is an Ojibwe Indian from the Leech Lake Reservation in northern Minnesota, and he is a best-selling novelist. He has won a Pushcart Prize, two Minnesota Book Awards, and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Bush Foundation, and the Guggenheim Foundation.
His book, The Heartbeat of Wounded Knee, was a National Book Award and Carnegie Medal nominee in 2019. He splits his time between his home on the Leech Lake Reservation and his job as an English professor at the University of Southern California.
