He now works with his father at Shula's Steak Houses, the family's restaurant company. He is the son of legendary NFL coach Don Shula. Following Don Shula's NFL career, the Shula family relocated to Detroit in 1960 and then Baltimore in 1963.
In 1970, the Shula family moved to Miami Lakes, Florida, where Dave Shula played high school football and baseball. Later, Dave Shula went to Dartmouth College, where he met his wife, Leslie. The couple has three boys together.
