David Regis started his professional career with Valenciennes in 1988 and stayed there until 1993. In 1993, he moved to Strasbourg, then to Lens, then to Karlsruhe in 1997. That last transfer was made in order to get attention from the French national team by playing in Germany's Bundesliga, which is seen as superior to Ligue 1 in France.
When the French showed little interest, Regis searched for alternative ways to play worldwide.
