David Quammen is a science journalist and author who travels on assignment to jungles deserts and swamps. His beat is ecology evolution and conservation. His dozen books include three novels four essay collections and the nonfiction titles The Song of the Dodo (Scribner 1996) Monster of God (W.W. Norton 2004) and The Reluctant Mr. Darwin (W.W. Norton 2006).
Quammen has received an Academy Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters a John Burroughs Medal for nature writing and three National Magazine Awards for essays and other short work. He is a contributing writer for National Geographic and writes for Harper’s Magazine and other publications.
