David Jeremiah Biography

Dr. David Jeremiah, the senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church and creator of Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries, sensed God's call on his life at a young age. Dr. Jeremiah was born on February 13, 1941, in Toledo, Ohio, to a family dedicated to ministry. Dr. Jeremiah and his family relocated to Dayton, Ohio, when he was eleven years old, where his father, Dr. James T. Jeremiah, was the pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church until becoming the President of Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio, in 1953. Dr. Jeremiah followed in his father's footsteps because he was attentive to God's guidance in his life. Dr. Jeremiah graduated from Cedarville College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1963. Dr. Jeremiah married Donna Thompson, his undergraduate love, who was also a business major at Cedarville College, in the same year. In 1967, he graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary with a master's degree in theology. In 1981, he received his Doctor of Divinity degree from Cedarville College after completing additional graduate studies at Grace Seminary. Dr. Jeremiah founded Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1969, and established a Christian school for children in grades K through 12. Blackhawk Baptist Church increased from 7 families to 1300 members during his 12 years as pastor. He also started the television show The Bible Hour. Dr. Jeremiah and his family followed God's call and relocated to California in 1981 when he became the senior pastor of Scott Memorial Baptist Church, which is now Shadow Mountain Community Church. Shadow Mountain Community Church is one of San Diego County's largest congregations. Southern California Seminary and Christian Unified Schools are also located there. Dr. Jeremiah felt God's call to continue the broadcast ministry he started in Fort Wayne when he began his ministry in Shadow Mountain. Turning Point Ministries was founded in 1982. Turning Point's 30-minute radio show is now broadcast on more than 2,200 stations throughout the world. Dr. Jeremiah received the Broadcaster of the Year Award from the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) in 1999, the Award of Merit from the Western Chapter of the National Religious Broadcasters for Excellence in Broadcasting and Faithfulness in Service in August 2002, and Turning Point received the Best Radio Teaching Praise Award in 2006. Turning Point began as a San Diego-based television show in 1982 and expanded to a national audience in 2000. Conservative estimates imply that up to 200 million homes across the world have access to Dr. Jeremiah's Bible teaching each week, thanks to cable and satellite technologies as well as terrestrial stations across the United States. Turning Point Television broadcasts a half-hour Bible study message and a full-hour worship session, both of which feature the same outstanding teaching. TBN, ION, Daystar, INSP, USA, Lifetime, UPtv, and ABC Family are among the national networks that broadcast the show. In addition to his speaking engagements around the country, Dr. Jeremiah finds time to pursue another love in his life: writing. His novels are consistently engrossing and to-the-point. Dr. Jeremiah is a committed family guy who thinks that Turning Point would not have been possible without the love and encouragement of his wife, Donna. He and Donna have a total of twelve grandkids and four grown children. Dr. Jeremiah is dedicated to teaching the entire Bible. His love for people and desire to reach out to the lost can be seen in the way he conveys biblical principles and his ability to go straight to the heart of the matter. Dr. Jeremiah is still thrilled to see what God will do in broadcast ministry throughout the world through Turning Point's missions.
