Daria Rebenok grew up in Russia and often returned from trips abroad with suitcases full of hard-to-get gifts like Victoria's Secret bras or new Apple gadgets. Rebenok was inspired by that experience along with husband Artem Fedyaev in 2015 to launch Grabr which combines both the gig economy and global trade.
It works like this: Say a Russian is craving a bottle of American BBQ sauce. The Muscovite uses Grabr to find someone in the States who'll pick up a bottle before a trip to the Kremlin; the American gets paid--compensation starts around $10 per item and goes up--when the sauce is delivered.
