Danielle Upbin Biography

Rabbi Danielle Upbin is a native of New York City. She earned a BA in Political Science and a Minor in Theater from Barnard College, Columbia University, with honors. Rabbi Upbin obtained his ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in 2002, as well as a Masters in Hebrew Letters. She earned prizes for homiletics and articles on the Middle East peace process after being ordained. Rabbi Upbin has spent time in Israel living and studying, including a year of rigorous study in Jewish mysticism, Hasidism, and art in Jerusalem and Tzefat. Rabbi Upbin interned at the 92nd Street Y's Makor/Steinhardt Center in New York City and The Old Westbury Hebrew Congregation on Long Island. She also worked as a chaplain for the Red Cross' Disaster Services following 9/11 in New York City. Rabbi Upbin is a skilled vocalist and a former member of the Screen Actors Guild, in addition to her rabbinic education. Rabbi Upbin's passion is leading Jewish prayer in a joyful and heartfelt manner. She has served as rabbi-in-residence at a number of Conservative synagogues around the country, where she has taught about prayer and led services. Rabbi Upbin now serves as the Associate Rabbi and Shlichat Tzibur (prayer leader) at Congregation Beth Shalom in Clearwater, Florida. She has studied meditation, Hassidism, and yoga, among other things, at the Institute for Jewish Spirituality, and she adds a spiritual and uplifting aspect to her leadership. She is a member of the Pinellas County Board of Rabbis, Hadassah, and has served on the board of the Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg. She is a supporter of Jewish education and likes sharing her enthusiasm for Torah with students of all ages. Rabbi Upbin and her husband, Rabbi David Weizman, live in Clearwater, Florida, with their four children.
