Daniela Hantuchová is a tennis player from Slovakia. She became professional in 1999 and had her breakthrough year in 2002, when she won her first WTA tournament, the Indian Wells Masters, defeating Martina Hingis in the final and becoming the tournament's lowest-ranked player ever. She also reached the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Championship and the US Open that year, finishing in the top ten. She was also a member of the Slovak squad that won the Fed Cup in 2002. Hantuchová attained her highest ranking of fifth in January 2003, after reaching the Australian Open semifinals. She went on to win five more WTA titles, including the Indian Wells Masters for the second time in 2007 and the 2013 Aegon Classic. She also advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in 2008, her best Grand Slam performance. She is the most successful Slovak tennis player of all time, and when she defeated Laura Robson in the second round of the Aegon Classic in June 2013, she became only the 37th woman in the Open Era to surpass 500 career wins. Hantuchova is also a skilled doubles player. She became became the seventh female tennis player to complete the career Grand Slam in mixed doubles in 2005. She won the mixed doubles at Wimbledon with Leo Friedl in 2001, the Australian Open with Kevin Ullyett in 2002, the French Open with Fabrice Santoro in 2005, and the US Open with Mahesh Bhupathi in 2005. She also reached the mixed doubles finals at Wimbledon in 2002 with Ullyett, and the women's doubles finals at the Australian Open in 2002 with Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, the French Open in 2006 with Ai Sugiyama, and the Australian Open in 2009 with Sugiyama. Hantuchová is presently coached by Eduardo Nicolás and is rated world No. 30 in singles as of September 9, 2013. She was rated 17 in 2012, however her rating dropped due to injuries. Martina Navrátilová, her WTA Tour mentor in the Partners for Success program, was also her doubles partner for a short time in early 2005.
