Daniel von Bargen's film credits include RoboCop, A Civil Action, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, and Super Troopers. He is best known for his role as Commandant Edwin Spangler in the TV sitcom Malcolm in the Middle. On the last season of Seinfeld, he played Kruger, George Costanza's supervisor at Kruger Industrial Smoothing, in the famous Festivus episode.
He had a long engagement at Trinity Repertory in Providence, Rhode Island; he performed in the world premiere of Larry Gelbart's Mastergate and other plays at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and had his Broadway debut when the production transferred to New York.
