Mr. Silke graduated from the University of Cape Town with a master's degree in international politics. Mr. Silke served in public service for six years, from 1995 to 2001, and was elected three times. After being re-elected in 1999, he served four years as a Member of Parliament in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament in Cape Town, South Africa. He has chaired the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, which oversees the economic development, tourism, agriculture, and transportation ministries. He has also served on the Finance, Health, and Gambling Committees, as well as being the Chief Whip for his political party. He has also served on the Economic Development Portfolio Committee of the City of Cape Town as a former City Councillor. Mr. Silke worked for five years at the University of Cape Town's Institute for the Study of Public Policy, where he coached students. Mr. Silke writes to a variety of media in South Africa and abroad. He is now a contributing writer for the Australian Quarterly, a publication of the Australian Institute of Policy and Science in Sydney. For almost ten years, he has been the international reporter for the Juluka magazine in Los Angeles, California. Mr. Silke has co-authored scholarly chapters in South African political books and is frequently quoted in major media and on the internet. His press statements have appeared in periodicals as far apart as Dubai, Jamaica, and Pakistan. He is a frequent guest commentator on e-tv and the SABC, as well as Radio France International, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and a number of other major broadcasting networks. Mr. Silke presently gives talks on current South African and global issues all around the world. He just finished a semester at Lynn University in Boca Raton, where he took part in the Dialogues of Innovation lecture series. He was a visiting scholar at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, like the Rooney Visiting Scholar. Mr. Silke has lectured to the Financial Planners Association of Australia in Sydney and has been a guest lecturer at the South Palm Beach lecture series in Florida for three seasons. He has given talks at the renowned World Affairs Council and the American Committee on Foreign Relations in Washington, DC. He has lately taught for CISCO and Microsoft Corporation, as well as giving talks at Duke University (North Carolina), Macquarie University (Sydney, Australia), Transylvania University (Kentucky), Washburn University (Kansas), the Philadelphia Bar Association, and Rotary International.
