Dan Widmaier is CEO and co-founder of Bolt Threads a new San Francisco Bay Area-based company harnessing proteins found in nature to create versatile and sustainable high performance fibers.
In 2004 as a graduate student at the University of California San Francisco Dan’s research led him to a fascination with spider silk where he set out to recreate the proteins found in natural silk. Five years later Bolt Threads was founded to make spider silk without the spiders – Engineered Silk fibers.
