Dan Reidenberg Biography

Dr. Dan Reidenberg is the Executive Director of SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education), a national nonprofit agency working to prevent suicide and help suicide survivors and people suffering from brain illnesses. Dr. Reidenberg also serves as Managing Director of the National Council for Suicide Prevention and is the US Representative to the International Association for Suicide Prevention. He is on the Steering Committees of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and the Suicide Prevention Resource Center. He is also the Chair of the American Psychotherapy Association Advisory Board and the Chair of the Certified Relationship Specialists Board.

Dr. Reidenberg has done extensive work with adolescents and adults who have serious and persistent mental illnesses or who are chemically dependent. He is a consultant to psychologists, attorneys, and businesses on healthcare and legal matters, is a nationally and internationally sought after speaker and sits on numerous national expert panels for suicide prevention and mental health issues with many published articles and authored the chapter on suicide for the book Adolescent Health. Dr. Reidenberg has developed one of only 3 evidence-based programs for school suicide prevention listed on the National Registry of Evidence-based Practices and Programs, several other best practice materials and he recently led a team that included senior leadership from Facebook, Google, Yahoo, YouTube, Twitter, Microsoft, Wordpress, Tumblr and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in developing the next generation of suicide prevention technology for the online industry.

Dr. Reidenberg has been quoted in many local and major newspapers in the country including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and LA Times, major magazines such as People, Time and Rolling Stone, appeared on CNN’s Newsmakers, Larry King, Canadian Broadcast Association, National Public Radio, ABC Radio stations and many television broadcasts. Dr. Reidenberg led the development of the internationally used Recommendations for Media Reporting on Suicide and served on the task force developing Media Recommendations on Bullying. He is leading the workgroup on Warning Signs for Suicide and was a member of the Task Force that developed the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention released by the Surgeon General. Recently he was appointed to co-lead with the Surgeon General the National Strategy Implementation Task Force for the US. He has presented extensively on media and mental health, substance abuse and suicide and is a member of the Entertainment Resource Professionals Association.

He has received numerous awards including being named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Minnesotans, the B. Warren Hart Award for service to humanity, Nonprofit Professional of the Year, Healthy Mind/Healthy Body Award and recently was recognized as a “Champion of Change” at The White House by the Obama Administration.
