Dale Jamieson Biography

Dale Jamieson joined the NYU faculty in the spring of 2004 after serving as the Henry R. Luce Professor in Human Dimensions of Global Change at Carleton College. He was previously a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he was the first faculty member to win both the Dean's and Chancellor's awards for research in the social sciences and the humanities. He's also worked as a visiting professor at Cornell, Stanford, Princeton, Oxford, and Monash University. Morality's Progress: Essays on Humans, Other Animals, and the Rest of Nature is Professor Jamieson's most recent book (Oxford, 2002). He is also the editor or co-editor of seven volumes, the most recent of which being A Companion to Environmental Philosophy (Blackwell, 2001), as well as Singer and His Critics (Blackwell, 1999), which was selected as one of the best academic books of 1999 by Choice. He's also written over a hundred articles and book chapters. His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation's Ethics and Values Studies Program, the US Environmental Protection Agency, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Office of Global Programs. Environmental Ethics, Environmental Values, Science, Technology, and Human Values, Science and Engineering Ethics, the Journal of Applied Animal Welfare, and The Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Ethics are among the periodicals on which he serves on the editorial board.
