Grace was a restaurant in Chicago, Illinois's West Loop area. Since 2015, it has been rated three stars by the Michelin Guide. Alinea and Grace were the only three-star restaurants in Chicago until they closed on December 20, 2017. Only one restaurant in Chicago presently holds three Michelin stars. Curtis Duffy, the original head chef, and his business partner Michael Muser established Grace in December 2012. Duffy formerly worked at Charlie Trotter's and served as chef de cuisine at Alinea when it first debuted in 2004. Prior to founding Grace, he was the head chef at Avenues at the Peninsula Hotel, where he had a two-star Michelin rating until shutting the restaurant in 2011. Grace has been a Michelin Guide three-star restaurant since 2014, and it is just the third restaurant in Chicago to do so, following Alinea and the now-closed L2O. Curtis Duffy and his life path to the birth of Grace are highlighted in the 2015 documentary For Grace; originally from Ohio, Duffy overcame his father's murder of his mother and subsequent suicide as a youngster. Grace had surpassed Alinea as Chicago's most expensive restaurant and one of the most expensive in the United States as of late 2016. Curtis Duffy and Michael Muser departed Grace in December 2017 after a disagreement with restaurant owner Michael Olszewski. Olszewski promptly shuttered the eatery.
