When the band got together in 1968, it was a second marriage for all of the members: Crosby had been a member of the Byrds, Nash had been a member of the Hollies, and Stills had been a member of Buffalo Springfield.
The emerging three, on the other hand, sounded nothing like its forerunners, with a distinctive vocal mix and a musical style that spanned from acoustic folk to melodic pop to hard rock. CSN's debut album, released in 1969, was perfectly timed, and the band became an immediate smash.
