Gass has been doing stand-up comedy since 1993 when he set out to avenge a group of comedians who had mocked him for trying to perform at an open mic. He learned to talk as a toddler by watching television, which gave him the unique ability to imitate personalities and performers. His parents and sister are also profoundly deaf.
Gass grew up emulating the sounds on TV since his family was unable to offer a model for how to talk. He acquired his ability to hear from his father, who was born with perfect hearing but eventually lost it.
