Michael Spinks, the former light heavyweight, and heavyweight world champion is Cory's uncle. He is one of three boxing brothers: his elder brother Leon Calvin was a top amateur in St. Louis and was 1-0 as a pro when he was murdered in 1993, and his older brother Darrell Spinks is still a professional boxer.
He's a skilled southpaw with exceptional hand speed and movement. He's recognized for keeping a fast tempo, off-balancing his opponents, and outworking them. Spinks has a solid amateur track record as well. In March of 2002, he defeated Michele Piccirillo by unanimous decision to win his first major title.
