Claudette Colvin, a nurse’s associate and Civil Rights Movement lobbyist, was brought into the world on September 5, 1939 in Birmingham, Alabama. Her folks were Mary Jane Gadson and C.P. Austin, yet she was raised by her incredible auntie and extraordinary uncle, Mary Ann Colvin and Q.P. Colvin. Claudette Colvin and her gatekeepers moved to Montgomery when she was eight.
She later went to Booker T. Washington High School in Montgomery. On March 2, 1955, 15-year-old Colvin, while riding on an isolated city transport, settled on the critical choice that would make her a pioneer of the Civil Rights Movement.
