She is the author of a book for Simon & Schuster entitled The War Against Boys. For more than a decade, women’s groups have been telling the public that our nation’s girls are being academically "shortchanged," drained of self-esteem by a society that favors boys. Sommers will show that it is boys, not girls, who are on the weak side of the gender gap.

Sommers earned her B.A. at New York University where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1971. She received her Ph.D. in Philosophy at Brandeis University in 1979. She has been a professor of philosophy at Clark University since 1980. She specializes in ethics and contemporary moral theory and has published many scholarly articles in such journals as the Journal of Philosophy and The New England Journal of Medicine. Sommers is editor of a popular textbook in moral philosophy entitled Vice and Virtue in Everyday Life that is used in college ethics courses around the country. Sommers became known to the wider public as the author of Who Stole Feminism? How Women Have Betrayed Women. She is best known for her writings on two subjects: 1) moral education in the schools and 2) feminism and American culture. Her articles have appeared in such places as the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, New Republic, Chicago Tribune, and Times Literary Supplement.
