Chris Albright Biography

Albright, a forward early in his career, attended collegiate soccer at the University of Virginia but dropped out after only two seasons despite being selected as an All-American in 1999. He used international interest to get allocated to D.C. United, despite the club being low on MLS's Project-40 pecking order for offensive talents. The league forced a deal with the Miami Fusion in exchange for future considerations, which turned out to be Roy Lassiter, but only after both Albright and Lassiter had helped DC win the MLS Cup in 1999. Albright's club career, on the other hand, did not measure up to the high expectations. In his first three years in the league, he failed to hit the back of the net, scoring only four goals in total. Prior to the 2002 season, DC traded Chris to the Galaxy in exchange for a draught selection. Albright moved to the midfield, then to the defense, where he was the Galaxy's starting right defender for the 2003 and 2004 seasons. After eight seasons in the MLS league, he has nine goals and 14 assists to his credit. Albright's first try at defense came with United States coach Bruce Arena, who previously coached Albright at UVA and DC United, and who awarded Chris his first cap against Jamaica on September 8, 1999. Albright scored his lone goal for the United States on that day, and as of early 2006, he has 18 caps. Albright was left out of Bruce Arena's 23-man team for the United States National Team's 2006 FIFA World Cup campaign in Germany. However, because to the injury of Frankie Hejduk, he was classified as an alternative and made the final team two days after the first roster announcement.
