Chocolate Biography

Since she was a youngster growing up in Gastonia, North Carolina, Chinnitta Morris, aka "Chocolate," has dreamed of being a performer. She would only perform for her five sisters in their impoverished household as a shy youngster to make light of difficult events. Chocolate has always shown to be a strong competitor. She was a Winston-Salem State University graduate who also served in the Marine Corps Reserve. She was the third of six daughters reared in a single-parent family, and she was the darkest of them all, thus she suffered a lot of criticism and had low self-esteem. Chocolate, on the other hand, learned to create lemonade out of her lemons. She learned to laugh at herself through the ups and downs of life. Her first time on stage, she focused mostly on her complexion, deciding that it would be preferable to address the apparent initially. She did so well with it that she found it soothing. Although she performed under the stage name "Chinnitta Morris" her first year, she was most known for her jokes about being "chocolate or dark-skinned," and the moniker "Chocolate" was formally granted to her two weeks before her first filming of Def Comedy Jam. Some of Chocolate's achievements during her career as a comedian, which began on November 27, 1990, include HBO's Def Comedy Jam, BET's Comic View, and Bad Girls of Def Comedy Jam, which featured five of Def Comedy Jam's top female comics. At the "Soul Train Comedy Awards," she was nominated for best female stand-up, which was won by Whoopie Goldberg. Chocolate has also performed in a number of theatre productions, including Tyler Perry's debut play, "I Know I've Been Changed." Despite the fact that she was a darling on Def Comedy Jam and Comic View and was achieving tremendous success in the secular realm, God called her out of the darkness into His glorious light in the year 1998. Her answer was an emphatic "YES!" "Only what you accomplish for Christ will last," Chocolate had received a revelation from God. She recognized that everything else was a waste of time and that her soul was on the verge of perishing, so she totally devoted her life to Christ. She didn't anticipate the change to be simple, but it wasn't. She received a lot of backlash from her peers, who couldn't understand why she made such a drastic move at a time when her career was flourishing. Chocolate's only concern was that she had now dedicated her life to Christ, and whatever He required of her had become her heart's desire to accomplish His will. Chocolate gives God the honor for all those who believe in what God is doing through her and have given her the opportunity to show it. And she proudly declares, "TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!!" in whatever He uses her to do for the advancement of His kingdom.
