(Chuck) Lauer, who took the magazine from a monthly money-losing project when Crain Communications bought it in 1976 to the nation's premier healthcare newsweekly. Chuck Lauer, a graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont, served in the United States Army as a corporal during the Korean War and went on to Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism in Evanston, Illinois, for his postgraduate studies.
