Chappell Roan entered the world on February 19, 1998, in Willard, Missouri, as Kayleigh Rose Amstutz before becoming the renowned pop artist known for her narrative-driven songs and strong voice and dedication to diversity. She found inspiration in her deceased grandfather which led her to create her stage name "Chappell Roan" by merging his family name with "Roan" from his beloved song "The Strawberry Roan."

The music of Roan combines elements of 'campy' style with 80s synth-pop and early 2000s hits while she expresses her personal experiences about identity and love and acceptance. The drag queen-inspired aesthetic of Roan manifests through her distinctive and dramatic style which appears in both her musical performances and her homemade theatrical tour costumes.
