Chanda Rubin is a professional tennis player of African descent. She is credited with paving the path for African-American tennis players all around the world. My parents are highly worried about every part of my life, she told Online Sports. They argue that I'm balanced, that I can play tennis and live a normal life off the court. I'm glad about that. Although Bernadette, a retired teacher, enjoyed tennis as a youngster and supported it in her children, she and her husband Edward, a judge, made certain that the three Rubin children recognized the importance of education. Both Edward and Bernadette, who grew up in a family of eleven children, were the first in their families to attend college, with Bernadette enrolling only after her family sold a prize hog to raise the money. Chanda, her elder sister LaShon, a teacher, and younger brother Edward, all three Rubin children, would attend school. Rubin received his diploma with honors from the Episcopal School of Acadiana in Cade, Louisiana, in 1993.
