Sharon Browne and David Downes, a former musical director of the Irish stage play Riverdance, created and gathered Celtic Woman, an all-female musical band.
Downes' idea was to capitalize on the American market's interest in Celtic music and culture by forming a group that combined Michael Flatley's Irish features with the structure of all-girl pop groups like the Spice Girls and Pussycat Dolls.
