About Cataracs

Cataracs Biography

The Cataracs are a hip-hop indie-pop band from Berkeley, California, led by Niles Cyranizzy Hollowell-Dhar, a songwriter, vocalist, and producer. Niles and David Campa, a former member of the band, When Benjamin Singer-Vine was a sophomore at Berkeley High School, they met. Singer-Vine was included on a rap CD being circulated on campus. When Dhar finally heard the CD, he responded by writing a song. The "diss" answer, on the other hand, brought the two together, and they quickly became friends. In 2003, the two came together to form The Cataracs, a reference to Snoop Dogg's song What's My Name Pt. 2. They released their debut album, Technohop Vol. 1, in the summer of 2006. The group collaborated with The Pack on the track Blueberry Afghani in August 2006. The song quickly became a smash, earning it a spot on 106 KMEL's Download of the Week list, as well as acclaim from The Fader, UK's Hip Hop Connection, and XLR8R. Singer-Vine and Niles Dhar began attending various universities around the country, but they both realized that they would have to drop out in order to follow their ambitions and careers in music. The pair then packed their belongings and relocated to Los Angeles, California, where they began working full-time on their music, writing songs such as Club Love and Baby Baby, the latter of which was used on the hit reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians in early 2010. Their second album, Technohop Vol. 2, was published in 2007, and their third album, The 13th Grade, was released in 2008. They spotted Dev, a vocalist from Manteca, CA, who had uploaded most of her work on MySpace, on their new stage. Dhar asked if she wanted to sing for them, and the song 2Nite was born. The Cataracs and Dev were both signed to a record company. Far East Movement and Glasses Malone were among the first musicians for whom they produced songs. The Cataracs rose to prominence as musicians thanks to their track Club Love, which got airplay in clubs and on a variety of radio stations in 2010. The song Like a G6, written by Singer-Vine/Dhar and produced by Dhar, was also a big hit for them. On the Billboard charts, the song reached number one. On Shwayze's 2010 mixtape Love Stoned, they were featured on two of his tracks. The pair also worked on tracks for The Pack's upcoming album, Wolfpack Party. They released the EP Gordo Taqueria in 2012, and the track All You, featuring Waka Flocka Flame and Kaskade, reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 Singer-Vine left the band in August 2012, but Dhar continues to produce under the name The Cataracs. Later that year, Dhar released tracks co-written with Martin Solveig, Trevor Simpson, and Borgeous, as well as songs produced by himself. The Cataracs released two music videos in early 2013. The video for Sky Blu's Alcohol (Remix) received a lot of attention, with over 2.5 million views. A few months later, the video for Missed U 2 featuring Petros was released. Martin Solveig released Hey Now with The Cataracs starring Kyle in May of 2013. The song was well-received, reaching No. 10 on the iTunes Dance Music list. The Cataracs revealed in June 2013 that he will be producing Selena Gomez's second lead song from her album Stars Dance. Slow Down reached the Top 20 on the iTunes Top 100 list in a number of countries, including the United States, France, and Canada. Gomez said she respected The Cataracs and was thrilled to be working with them in a radio interview. The Cataracs also wrote and produced the song Undercover on the Stars Dance album. It was Gomez's favorite song on the album, she said. The Cataracs also released another EP, Loud Science, in 2013, which included the track the Big Dipper.
