Cat Whitehill is an American soccer player who was born Catherine Anne Reddick on February 10, 1982. She is a defender for the Washington Freedom of Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) and the US women's national soccer team, and she formerly played for the New Jersey Wildcats of the W-League. She was born in Richmond, Virginia, but attended Briarwood Christian School in Birmingham, Alabama. She began playing soccer at a young age and went on to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she met Mia Hamm, Kristine Lilly, and Eddie Pope, as well as other great American players. She made her debut for the United States women's national soccer team against Italy on July 6, 2000, and has since become a regular for her country. On New Year's Eve 2005, she married Robert Whitehill. Whitehill is an outspoken supporter of women's sports participation. She spoke in support of Title IX, the civil rights statute that, among other things, provides women and girls with the same opportunity to engage in school athletics as boys and men, during a Senate committee hearing on February 1, 2006. Whitehill testified that as a young girl in Alabama, she had to play on males' soccer teams since there were no options for girls to play organized soccer at the time.
