Cary Cherniss, Ph.D., is a prominent psychologist and Professor Emeritus of Applied Psychology at Rutgers University’s Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology. He received his doctorate in psychology from Yale University and has taught at several prestigious institutions including the University of Michigan, University of Illinois, and others. Cherniss specializes in emotional intelligence (EI), professional burnout, leadership development, work stress, and planned organizational change. He co-chairs the Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organizations. He has authored or co-authored nine books, including “The Emotionally Intelligent Workplace” (2001), “Promoting Emotional Intelligence in Organizations” (2000), “Leading with Feeling” (2020), and the recent “Optimal: How to Sustain Personal and Organizational Excellence Every Day” (2024).
