Carolyn Miles is the President and CEO of Save the Children, an organization that provides children in the United States and throughout the globe with a healthy start, the chance to learn, and safety from danger. The worldwide Save the Children movement now serves over 157 million children in the United States and over 120 countries. Save the Children, as a worldwide organization, is dedicated to reducing the number of avoidable deaths among children under the age of five, ensuring that every child receives a high-quality basic education, and safeguarding all children from abuse. Miles joined the company in 1998, served as COO from 2004 to 2011, and was named President and CEO in September 2011. Under her direction, the charity has more than quadrupled the number of children it serves via nutrition, health, education, and other initiatives. In 2016, resources totaled slightly about $700 million. Miles' trademark problems include hunger, educational outcomes, and the abolition of avoidable child deaths. Prior to joining Save the Children, she worked in the private sector for American Express and as an entrepreneur in Hong Kong. During her time in Asia, she witnessed the deprivation of the region's children, which inspired her to devote her life to their well-being. Miles has served on the boards of several organizations, including Blackbaud, InterAction, USGLC, MFAN, Academy of Education, Arts and Sciences, FSG, and the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business, where she earned her MBA. In addition to her present position on the Darden Board, she is Co-Chair of the US Global Leadership Alliance (USGLC) and Chair of InterAction, the biggest coalition of US-based non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Miles was designated one of the 50 World's Greatest Leaders by Fortune magazine in 2015, and she was inducted into the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame. She is married and has three children.
