Dr. Carolyn Jefferson-Jenkins is a social historian, activist, and expert in the fields of women's equity and inclusion, suffrage, education, and health care reform. Dr. Jefferson-Jenkins decided to engage in education after being inspired by her grandmother's profession as a teacher. She spent several years working as a teacher and administrator in public schools.

At the moment, she is an adjunct assistant professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Education. Dr. Jefferson-Jenkins has long been an active member of the League of Women Voters. As the first woman of color to occupy the office, she was chosen as the League of Women Voters' 15th national president in 1998.
