Caroline Hoxby Biography

Professor Caroline Hoxby is a Senior Lecturer of the Hoover Institution and the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, as well as the Scott and Donya Bommer Professor of Economics at Stanford University. She is also the Director of the National Bureau of Economic Research's Economics of Education Program. Professor Hoxby is a renowned expert in the field of education economics, with a background in public finance and labor economics. Her groundbreaking work in the subject was transformational because she recognized that integrating economic thought into education yielded a wealth of useful information. Hoxby has also served on advisory groups for the government, The Brookings Institution, and organizations interested in education policy as a presidential appointment to the National Board of Education Sciences. She's given keynote, ministerial, and sponsored talks at places including UC Berkeley, Notre Dame University, and the Econometric Society, to name a few. Hoxby earned a Ph.D. from MIT, was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, and graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor's degree summa cum laude.
