Kane's work in the film Hester Street earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Kane is most remembered for her role as Simka Dahblitz-Gravas in the television series Taxi, where she played the wife of Latka Gravas (Andy Kaufman). She won two Emmys for her portrayal of Simka.
