Carol Guzy has always aspired to be an artist since she was a child. But, growing up in a working-class household in Bethlehem, Pa., such a goal seemed unattainable. 'Oh, if you're an artist, you'll starve,' says everyone she knows. You must take action that is really realistic.' As a result, Guzy decided to pursue a career as a nurse.
She recognized halfway through that she would not, could not, be a nurse. She chuckles as she says, "I was terrified to death that I was going to murder someone by making some dumb mistake." So, as she was pondering her future plans, a friend handed her a camera and she enrolled in a photography school.
