He is a former Colombian-American soccer player who currently plays as a defender for Major League Soccer's C.D. Chivas USA. Carlos Llamosa began his professional soccer career in 1986 with Colmena, a Colombian team in the third tier. In 1990, he joined Huila of Colombia's top division.

Llamosa immigrated to the United States in 1991 to join the rest of his family, who were residing in Queens, New York City at the time. Llamosa resurrected his professional career in 1995, spending a season with the A-New League's York Centaurs.
