Carlo Petrini was born on June 22, 1949, in Bra, Italy. In 1977, he began writing about wine and cuisine, and he has since written to hundreds of Italian magazines and other publications all over the world. Petrini was involved in the founding and development of Arcigola, an Italian non-profit food, and wine organization, in 1983.
Petrini began to form alliances with friends and colleagues in and around the aims of returning food back to its origins as he became increasingly dissatisfied by the industrialization of the food supply and the degradation of quality in the food he observed around him.
